Robert Menzies (1823 - 1912) Robert Menzies was born on 7th November 1852 in Penicuik, Midlothian and baptised on 5th December 1852 in the Partish of Penicuik. He was the son of Robert Menzies and Janet Bain. He lived in Penicuik as a child, leaving school to become a tailor by the age of 18. In 1871 he lived at 4 Meggats Build in Penicuik with his family. By 1878 he had moved to Edinburgh, where he married Mary Agnes Kilgour at 521 Melville Street. By 1881 he had moved back to Penicuik with Mary and still worked as a tailor. The family lived at Wilson's Court in Penicuik. By 1891 the family had moved back to Edinburgh, first to 2 Noble Place, then to 11 Shaw's Square where, at the age of 48, he had become a tailor's cutter. No details of his death currently. |
Mary Agnes Kilgour (1850 -) Mary was born about 1850 in Leith, Midlothian. She was the daughter of Joseph Gilbert Kilgour and Isabella Brown. In 1851 her family lived at 4 Tolbooth Wynd, Leith. Later they moved to 2 Regent St. By 1871 when Mary was 21 she lived at 2 Charlotte Street in Leith. Mary stayed at home without working until she was married to Robert. No details of Mary's death.
