Margaret Keddie 1843

Margaret Keddie (1843 - 1864)

Margaret was born 9 June 1843 at Linglee Farm in Selkirk, where her father was employed as a Hind.  

In 1861, at 17, she was employed as an agricultural  labourer living with her family at Blacks Farm in Nenthorn.

She married William Lauder  on 9 December 1864 in Burnbrae Parish, Nenthorn, when she was 21. One of the witnesses at her wedding was John Black, presumably of Blacks Farm. The other was Frederick Anderson, possibly a cousin or other relation of her grandmother, Janet Andison. 

She died on 23 November 1926 in Darnick, Melrose.

William Lauder (1835 - )

William was the third child of  George Lauder and Elizabeth Kelly from Selkirk.

He was 29 when he married Margaret in 1864.

 

 

Details of William's death are currently unknown.

The family remained in Nenthorn after their marriage, and their 5 children were bon there.

In 1871, aged 45, William was a farm steward and the family lived in a cottage in Nenthorn, where they remained until sometime between 1881 and 1891.

By 1891 William has become a farmer and the family lived at Little B Meadow in Stow, Midlothian.

In 1901 the family have moved to Sain Fan Farm House, and of the children only Jessie remains at home. Living with them are Margaret's nephew James, son of her brother David, and their 3 year old granddaughter Maggie (parentage currently unknown).
