Andrew Keddie was born 14 March 1889 at 25 Greenbank Street, Galashiels. He was the son of Andrew Keddie and Margaret Cavers.
By 1891 he was living at 18 Huddersfield Street with his parents and brothers James and John. In 1892 his sister Elizabeth Cavers (‘Lizzie’) was born.
In 1901 the family were living at 67 St Andrew Street, Galashiels. Andrew was admission number 774 at St Peter’s Episcopalian School, which he attended until 16 March 1903 when he was over age.
By 1909 Andrew had moved to Edinburgh where he was employed as a yardman and lived at 96 Morrison Street. On 23 April 1909 he married Charlotte Menzies at St Thomas’s House, Edinburgh.
Charlotte Menzies (1888 – 1961)
Charlotte Menzies was born in Leith about 1888. She was the daughter of Robert and Mary Agnes Menzies. Her father was from Penicuik and her mother was from Leith.
In 1891 at the age of 3 Charlotte was living with her parents, 5 brothers and sister at 2 Noble Place, Leith, where her father was a tailor. In 1892 her brother Stuart, who was the twin of Allan, died of pneumonia at the age of 2.
By 1901 the family were living at 11 Shaw’s Square in Edinburgh and Charlotte was still at school.
In 1909 Charlotte was living at 40 Arthur Street in Leith and employed as a relief stamper when she married Andrew Keddie.
All the children of Andrew and Charlotte were born in Edinburgh; Andrew in 1909 and Elizabeth Cavers in 1910, Mary Agnes Kilgour in 1912 and Robert Menzies Keddie on 27 Jun 1915.
By 1958 Andrew was a retired railway goods inspector.
In 1961 Andrew and Charlotte were living at 1 Stenhouse Terrace, Edinburgh and Charlotte died 22 December 1961. She was cremated 30 December 1961 at Warriston Crematorium, Edinburgh. Her obituary read:
"At City Hospital, on December 22, 1961, CHARLOTTE MENZIES, dearly beloved wife of ANDREW KEDDIE, 1 Stenhouse Terrace. Funeral on Tuesday from the home of her daughter, Mrs Margaret Mackay, 12 Whitson Road, to Warriston Crematorium".
Andrew died in 1966.
